WHY I CREATED THIS SITE
This website was created to bring increased visual awareness to psoriasis, and to focus on the part of the disease that the
doctors don't tell you about in the five minute appointment. I've had psoriasis, and later psoriatic arthritis for nearly twenty years
now, and as the severity increased, (as well as the stares) the more I would cover up and hide away from the world. After trying
nearly every FDA approved treatment available, with unsuccessful results, I have finally come to a point of acceptance and will no
longer hide from this disease. I find it amazing how many people believe psoriasis is contagious and that somehow they might
catch it if they associate with people with the disease. Unlike other websites, I do not intend to tell you about psoriasis, I intend to
show you. As briefly explained in the introduction, digital photographs and videos will be used to document exactly what is
involved in the daily management of this disease. Many of the photos and videos are extremely graphic and will show in vivid
detail how dead psoriasis scales are removed, which is necessary to do each day to help prevent what I call, "psoriasis trails",
which is simply a trail of dead skin that falls off as you walk, or a pile of skin that is left on the floor after you've gotten up from
your seat. For people with extensive psoriasis lesions, it is not unheard of to spend two or three hours a day just removing skin.
This becomes a routine, like taking a shower everyday, although two or three showers are frequently necessary. By all
accounts, both the pictures and videos may be considered quite disgusting and very difficult to watch for many people,
particularly those without the disease, but that is the whole point. It is NOT my intention to gross people out, but I have found over
the years that so many people are just unaware of the more severe forms of psoriasis, and the pictures and videos are simply
documenting what some people need to do in their everyday lives to manage their disease. It is my hope that this website will
help to provide some visual insight into the reality of severe psoriasis, and what daily life is like for those with the disease.
Psoriasis has historically been a disease that has been somewhat overlooked by the medical community for many years, but this
is beginning to change. I have come to a point psychologically, that this disease no longer controls me. And, if other people are
uncomfortable with it, or if they have a problem with my psoriasis, then it is simply their problem, not mine. It no longer serves
me to cover up from the world, and I have every intention of doing anything possible to bring increased awareness to psoriasis.
